Yangarra Estate
Yangarra Estate Vineyard is a certified organic and biodynamic winery located in the elevated northeast of McLaren Vale, South Australia. Spanning 170 hectares—with nearly 90 under vine and the rest preserved for native vegetation—Yangarra is deeply committed to sustainable viticulture and environmental stewardship.
The estate is devoted exclusively to Rhône varietals, with old bush vine Grenache, planted in 1946, serving as its cornerstone. Alongside Grenache, Yangarra cultivates a diverse mix of traditional and lesser-known Rhône grapes, including Shiraz, Roussanne, Clairette Blanc, Picpoul Noir, and even Grenache Blanc—the first of its kind commercially planted in Australia.
What sets Yangarra apart is its unique terroir: rare geologies, moderate altitude, abundant sunshine, and cooling evening breezes. These conditions mirror the Mediterranean climate of southern France, making it ideal for Rhône-style wines that are expressive, balanced, and full of character.
Winemaking at Yangarra is guided by a philosophy of minimal intervention, allowing the vineyard’s natural qualities to shine through. The result is a portfolio of wines that are not only site-specific but also highly acclaimed—Yangarra has been recognized as one of Australia’s top-performing wineries, particularly for its role in redefining the potential of McLaren Vale Grenache.
Visitors to the estate can enjoy immersive tasting experiences at the cellar door, explore the vineyard through guided tours, and gain a deeper appreciation for the land and its wines. Yangarra isn’t just a winery—it’s a benchmark for innovation, authenticity, and respect for nature in Australian winemaking.
