Somos Wines is a bold and experimental wine project based in McLaren Vale, Australia, founded by Mexican winemaker Mauricio Ruiz Cantú. The name Somos—Spanish for We Are—reflects a philosophy of community, creativity, and pushing boundaries. Unlike traditional South Australian wines, Somos embraces alternative varieties and unconventional winemaking techniques, crafting vibrant, lo-fi wines with a sustainable ethos.

Mauricio’s journey began in Mexico, where he worked in a winery before moving to Australia to study viticulture and oenology. After launching Juguette, a successful wine brand in Mexico, he created Somos as a more avant-garde venture. The range features lesser-known Italian and Spanish grape varieties, including Aglianico, Vermentino, Mencia, and Barbera, alongside innovative styles like skin-contact whites and Pet Nat.

With a strong focus on organic and biodynamic fruit, Somos Wines embodies a fresh, energetic approach to winemaking—deeply rooted in South Australia but infused with Latin American soul.
