Scarpantoni Estate
Scarpantoni Estate Wines is a family-owned and operated winery located in the picturesque township of McLaren Flat, South Australia. Established in 1979 by Dom and Paula Scarpantoni, with the support of their sons Michael and Filippo, the winery has grown into a respected name in the McLaren Vale wine region.
The Scarpantoni family’s winemaking roots trace back to the Abruzzi region of central Italy. Domenico Scarpantoni immigrated to Australia in 1952, eventually settling in McLaren Vale, where he purchased his first vineyard in 1958. Over the years, the family expanded their holdings, and in 1979, they built their own winery, establishing the Scarpantoni Estate label.
Scarpantoni Estate Wines is known for producing a diverse range of premium wines, including sparkling burgundy, rosé, white wines, red wines, and sweet wines. The winery prides itself on maintaining full control over every stage of production, from viticulture to bottling, ensuring the highest quality standards. The estate has 40 hectares under vines and produces approximately 40,000 dozen wines per year.
The winery has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy in 2007 for its 2006 Brothers Block Cabernet and the Greatest Australian Shiraz Challenge in 2008 for its 2006 Block 3 Shiraz. Scarpantoni blends are regarded as some of the finest expressions of McLaren Vale’s red varieties, with standout wines such as the School Block Red (a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot) and the newly released School Block White (a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Chenin Blanc).
Visitors to Scarpantoni Estate can enjoy tastings at the cellar door, which offers stunning views over the vineyards from the front verandah. The winery’s commitment to tradition and excellence makes it a must-visit destination for wine lovers exploring McLaren Vale.
