FIN and Cré Wines
Nestled in the hills of Dixons Creek, FIN and Cré Wines is a dual-label project driven by three mates—JonJo McEvoy, Oliver Johns, and Angus Hean—who are rewriting the rules of Yarra Valley winemaking with a mix of irreverence, intuition, and deep respect for the land. Together, they’ve created a fermentation collective that celebrates experimentation, minimal intervention, and the joy of sharing good wine with good people.
FIN Wines is the playful, boundary-pushing side of the operation. Expect wild ferments, pét-nats, piquettes, and co-ferments of grape, apple, and honey—crafted with minimal faffery and maximum drinkability. Labels like Goth Juice, Fizzy Boi, and Yay! Pinot reflect the team’s cheeky spirit and commitment to fun, fresh, and unfiltered wines that don’t take themselves too seriously.
Cré Wines, by contrast, is their more contemplative project—an ode to the subregions of the Yarra Valley and the growers who farm them. These wines are made with restraint and reverence: slow presses, wild ferments, no fining or filtering, and minimal SO₂. The goal is to let the vineyard speak, capturing the nuance of soil, slope, and season in every bottle.
The cellar door, located at 119 Lorimers Lane, is open weekends and offers a relaxed, come-hang-out vibe. Housed in a log cabin with an open kitchen and outdoor seating, it’s more backyard hang than tasting bar. Guests can sample a rotating lineup of wines and ciders, often poured by the winemakers themselves. Plans for a casual food offering—think “Stuff on Toast” rather than cheese boards—are in the works.
The vineyard, planted in the early ’90s, is farmed without herbicides or pesticides and is being rewilded with native species to support biodiversity. The team also sources fruit from like-minded growers across the Yarra and Goulburn Valley, including the legendary Sarah Gough of Box Grove.
Whether you’re sipping a chilled red on the lawn, diving into a pét-nat with friends, or exploring the terroir-driven side of Cré, FIN and Cré Wines invites you to drink curiously, tread lightly, and always bring snacks.
