Nestled in the Rutherglen wine region of Victoria, Anderson Winery is a small, family-owned winery specializing in traditionally made sparkling wines and rich, full-bodied reds. Established by Howard Anderson, who has over 60 years of experience in the wine industry, the winery has built a reputation for craftsmanship, sustainability, and innovation.

Howard’s expertise in sparkling winemaking dates back to his time at Seppelt Great Western, where he spent 14 years as a senior winemaker. In 1991, he purchased 24 hectares of land on Chiltern Road, Rutherglen, and opened the Anderson Winery cellar door in 1993. Today, Howard works alongside his daughter, Christobelle Anderson, who studied winemaking in Adelaide and gained experience in several French wine regions. Together, they form a formidable father-daughter winemaking team, blending traditional techniques with modern knowledge.

Anderson Winery is known for its low-yielding, unirrigated vineyard, which enhances fruit intensity and richness. The winery embraces hand-picking and gentle basket-pressing, ensuring that each bottle reflects the depth and complexity of Rutherglen’s terroir. The portfolio includes Shiraz, Durif, Tempranillo, Petit Verdot, and Saperavi, alongside award-winning sparkling wines.

Visitors to the cellar door are welcomed into a fully operational winery, where they can smell the yeast, see the winemaking equipment, and explore barrels holding the current vintage. Tastings are often led by Howard or Christobelle, providing a personal and immersive experience.

Anderson Winery has earned multiple awards, including top gold for its 2021 Cellar Block Saperavi at the 2023 Rutherglen Wine Show and a trophy for its Classic Muscat at the 2023 Australian Small Winemakers Show. The winery also won gold in the Red Wine of Provenance class for its Verrier Durif Shiraz blend (vintages 2019, 2014 & 2008) at the 2023 North East Victorian Wine Challenge.
